Jake Lewis

In July 2004 eight year old Jake Lewis fell and bumped his head on a fencepost while playing at Las Posas Children's Center's Summer Day Camp. As a precaution his mother, Jill Thompson, took Jake to the doctor to have him checked. A CT Scan revealed large cyst on his brain that probably had been there since birth. The cyst was putting pressure on Jake's brain which affected his vision and balance and caused headaches and nausea.

In October 2004, Jake underwent surgery at Children's Hospital to drain the cyst. As a single parent, Jill would have difficulty paying the out-of-pocket expenses of the surgery. The staff and parents of LPCC pitched in to help raise the necessary funds.

Jake is back in school and doing well overall. He still has some of the same pre-surgery difficulties, but the doctors hope that as the cyst continues to drain over time, the difficulties will fade.

Jill and Jake send their heartfelt thanks for all the love, prayers, and support from the community.
